A good year for Fraser Fir

Fraser Fir Christmas Trees

The tree pictured above is a Fraser Fir tree growing at our Christmas Tree Farm here in Scotland. It was taken before shearing and shows the side and top growth that the tree has put on this year, in what has been an excellent growing season.

The following photos show trees that have been side sheared. This shearing technique leaves the tree with a perfect shape, almost artificial some would say. To create this “perfect shape” is very labour intensive.

Nurturing our Christmas Trees

We will leave the trees for about 2 to 3 weeks then come back to them and sort the top branches and leaders out, cutting them to the size appropriate for the size of the tree. The reason for this is so the tree settles from the intensive side shearing and puts its energy into straightening the leader itself. Some trees do not do this and then we will cane the leader to help with the straightening.

All the trees have had a granular and foliar feed (fertilizer) to enhance their growth and colour.

In this species, we have trees available from 4ft to 8ft in height for both wholesale and retail customers.
